Shai Peleg studied theater and acting at the “Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts”.
He later pursued law studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Shai’s true passion has always been the cinema.
His film studies at Tel Aviv University were where he discovered his passion for storytelling through composition, camera movement, and lighting.
Early in his career, three of Shai’s films participated in the “Cinéfondation”, the official student competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
Two of his films won second and third prize in the “Cinéfondation”. The film “Questions of a Dead Worker” received the award from director Martin Scorsese.
The music videos he shot during that period drew industry attention and led him to a career in major commercials and shooting award-winning promos for the two major Israeli TV networks “Reshet” and “Keshet”.
This led to Shai filming the most viewed Israeli music video of all time, Eurovision winner Neta Barzilai’s “Toy.”
Shai is always seeking challenging projects with artistic interest.
His unique cinematic vision has earned him cinematography awards at the Haifa and Jerusalem Film Festivals.
The feature films he had shot have been screened at dozens of major film festivals around the world.
The film “Sand Storm” premiered at the “Sundance Film Festival” and won the Grand Jury Prize in the World Cinema Dramatic section.
It later participated in the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival.
The film was Israel’s official submission for the American Academy Awards and then distributed worldwide by “Netflix”.
The film has won the largest distribution deal ever for an Israeli feature film.
The film “Come Closer” (by Tom Neshar) premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York and won the Viewpoints Award for best international feature film.
Soon after, the film won the Israeli Ophir Award for Best Film and was Israel’s official submission for the American Academy Award for best International Feature Film.
